"Don’t say Gypsy it’s a slur"

Okay, but only when I hear that from a group of Roma people say that the word Gypsy offends or degrades them. Because I could be mistaken but are their not groups of “Gypsies” that acutely call themselves Gypsy? Yes it was a slur that has now been appropriated to refer to the romanticized Gypsy lifestyle, which is equated with freedom. Does it occur to any of the non- Roma people complaining about it that maybe reclaiming a word used by their oppressors and used in a positive way is empowering? I am kinda curious how actual “Gypsy” people feel about this “social issue”

And the actual entomology behind the word because I am currently going off of tumblr SJW version of history. Which as far as I actually know is completely fabricated.

Mostly I just think about naps and kissing you

I once had a feminist tell me that even though I’m gay and have been refused service for it, I still have more rights than she does. Because women all across America are being thrown out of restaurants for having a vagina. Right.

Your blog is filled with misconceptions about feminism.

I once had a feminist tell me that peoples’ experiences with self-identified feminists are all just misconceptions, and are thus invalid as observations of feminists.

There’s a mosquito net maker in Africa. He manufactures around 500 nets a week. He employs ten people, who (as with many African countries) each have to support upwards of fifteen relatives. However hard they work, they can’t make enough nets to combat malaria-carrying mosquito.

Enter vociferous Hollywood movie star who rallies the masses, and goads Western governments to collect and send 100,000 mosquito nets to the afflicted region, at a cost of a million dollars. The nets arrive, the nets are distributed, and the ‘good deed’ is done.

With the market flooded with foreign nets, however, our mosquito net maker is promptly put out of business. His ten workers can no longer support their 150 dependents (who are now forced to depend on handouts), and one mustn’t forget that in a maximum of five years the majority of the imported nets will be torn, damaged and of no further use.

A reminder to take a long term view to problems. And always one that promotes development, not dependency.

So it’s fine to blame men (a label no one can choose to have) for what the patriarchy does to them, but it’s wrong to blame feminism (a label one chooses) for the bad things feminists do?

How the hell does that work?

THE SECOND PARAGRAPH READ IT WOW WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT HOLY FRIXK

There are many cultures that placed women above men in terms of religious sense.
Islam, is one.
-Liv

Err. Sort of. Not exactly.

"Paradise lies at the feet of the mother. "Narrated Abu Huraira:A man came to Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) and asked,"O Allahs Apostle! Who is more entitled to be treated with the best companionship by me?"The Prophet(PBUH) said, “Your mother.” The man said. “Who is next?”The Prophet(PBUH) said, “Your mother.”The man further said, “Who is next?”The Prophet(PBUH) said, “Your mother.”The man asked for the fourth time,"Who is next?" The Prophet(PBUH) said, "Your father."Obedience to a mother is obedience to God."The most perfect believer in the matter of faith is one who has excellent behaviour; and the best among you are those who behave best towards their wives."
Really? Cause from what I understand, Islam is actually really respectful of their women in their holy books. What extremists do—which is what we mostly hear of and see—is not a representation of all of Islam.
-Liv

This is a hadith, it is not part of the Qur’an. Many Muslims ignore or selectively ignore hadiths.
There is also a hadith which says woman’s paradise is beneath her husbands feet.
There is another which says that if a wife refuses to sleep with her husband he must first seperate her then beat here
There is another which says if a young girl (pre pubescent) refuses sex she may be tied down.
And regardless of what the Qur’an says… In Islamic court the women need the husbands permission to divorce, and count for only half a witness in any case heard.
Don’t quote mine. The Quran and hadiths contradict themselves just as much as any other holy book, and what matters is what is practised, not what is preached. You of all people ought to know this. Islam venerates women in the same way feminism seeks to help men.

No, extremists do. Extremists of Islam are the problem, not the religion. Just as extreme Christians like the Westboro Baptist Church are a problem, not Christianity itself. Saying that it’s the whole of a religion that is a problem and that must be changed tramples on a fuck-ton of peoples rights.
You’re right, what matters is what is practiced and not what is preached, but like I said previously, all the media ever shows us of Islam is the fucking bad people and the evil it does. They never show any of the good people in the religion or the good that it does. We can hear endlessly of men and women tossing acid into other men and women’s faces and all tut and say, “ISLAM IS THE REAL PROBLEM HERE, RAWWR!” but that’s placing all the blame of all the people of the movement on the select few. There are plenty of Islamic individuals who don’t throw acid in peoples faces and bomb buildings and do whatever the fuck else it is that people think stereotypical Muslims do.
I work for a Muslim family, and they don’t fucking oppress their wives or girlfriends in any way, shape, or form. They don’t beat women or talk down to women or treat them lesser in any way. Their friends who come to visit don’t either. The multitude of Muslim students in our University don’t mock and belittle their female students. And yes, I’m aware that I live in Canada and their are few extremists out here and that the culture is different and that my experiences don’t speak for everyone; but, what you’re telling me is that we should take away, modify, butcher, and mutilate these peoples religion—which, to be fucking quite honest, MEANS A FUCK MORE TO MUSLIMS THAN IT DOES TO PROBABLY ANY OTHER FUCKING RELIGIOUS GROUP OUT THERE, BECAUSE IF THERE IS ONE FUCKING DEVOUT RELIGION IT IS MOTHERFUCKING ISLAM!—because we don’t understand and agree with it’s—admittedly—outdated preachings in an ancient fucking text? Doesn’t that just seem…horrifically pretentious, cruel, and downright wrong? That sounds like oppression.
Islam isn’t the problem. Extremists are.
-Liv

About that “media”I’m not an American so it isn’t as tube fed here generally. I have read the Quran front to back. I also know many Muslims personally.
Congratulations on knowing some moderate ones. I also know abusive ones. I also speak semi regularly with people who actually live or have lived in Islamic theocracies or even just majority Muslim countries. I also know plenty of moderate and inoffensive feminists.
I consider it hypocritical that you don’t treat Islam with the same scrutiny that you treat feminism.
Not all Muslims are like that!

I don’t assume all feminists are misandrists…so why would I assume all Muslims are abusive and oppressive?
Thinking in extremes like that is wrong.
-Liv

Not to mention while religions can be political they don’t have to be, Muslims don’t inherently have to impress their opinions on others to be Muslims. Feminists do, because they are a political social movement. Religions and political parties are not equivalents.

I need masculism because it’s unfair that young boys are circumcised against their will. And it’s too hard for me to challenge the ageist attitude that children are the property of their parents, so I’d rather just blame feminism.

I don’t know I’d blame a police officer if they just stood there and watched my house get robbed just because it wasn’t their house getting robbed.
